Kahi Enviro Monitoring

Optimizing UX/UI Design for Environmental Sensor Monitoring iOS App

Kahi’s environmental sensor monitoring iOS app revolutionizes the restoration industry by providing technicians with an intuitive interface to install and manage environmental sensors at job sites. Focused on collecting temperature and humidity readings, the app serves as a gateway for collecting and interpreting data from proprietary environmental sensors installed at remediation jobs.

Problem

Existing solutions lack an intuitive interface and hardware product for technicians to manage and monitor environmental sensors efficiently, truly hindering restoration contractors and their businesses. Site technicians currently have to walk around sites on a daily basis and collect environmental data manually, wasting a lot of time and leaving room for mutable data. When insurance companies only pay out so much, technicians may have to reduce their site visits which can lead to further damage claims and unnecessary costs associated with over-drying. Additionally, monitoring the effectiveness of remediation equipment poses challenges, requiring innovative solutions for performance tracking and analysis.

Objective

Design a user-friendly interface that simplifies sensor, zone, and job management, facilitating seamless data collection and analysis for remediation contractors. Design features to streamline job setup, monitor drying jobs, collect historical data, and track assets.

Design Process

Understanding User Needs: Comprehensive user research and interviews with restoration technicians identified pain points and requirements and informed key features and workflows.

Defining Features: Prioritized features based on user feedback including job site set up, sensor installation, zone creation, environmental monitoring, historical data analysis, and asset tracking. Developed user stories to guide feature implementation.

Wireframing and Prototyping: Iteratively designed wireframes and prototypes to visualize the app's navigation flow and screen layouts. Incorporated feedback from stakeholders and usability testing sessions to refine the design.

Visual Design: Developed a visually appealing interface consistent with iOS design guidelines. Emphasized clarity, hierarchy, and intuitive controls to enhance user experience.

Key Features

Sensor Management

  • Streamlined interface for adding, removing, and monitoring environmental sensors quickly and efficiently.

  • Integration of status and sensor indicators, ensuring technicians can quickly identify and resolve issues.

Zone Setup

  • Creation of common zones (external, HVAC, unaffected) and custom affected zones for monitoring remediation progress.

  • Remediation job set up template designed and provided. Helpful tool tips and guides included.

  • Integration of asset zones within affected zones to track the effectiveness of remediation equipment.

Drying Job Management

  • Technician-initiated activation and termination of monitoring sessions, organized visually for easy access and management.

  • Historical tracking of sessions tied to job sites, enabling comprehensive analysis and guaranteeing insurance claims payouts.

Historical Data Analysis

  • Robust reporting functionality to view and compare historical readings of session sensors.

  • Seamless integration with the Kahi ecosystem for data collection and retrieval across web and mobile applications.

Outcome

The new UX/UI of environmental sensor monitoring within Kahi’s new Field iOS app empowers technicians to streamline the installation and management of sensors at job sites. It also helps contractors get paid faster by insurance companies. By providing intuitive digital tools for sensor, zone, and job management, the app enhances the efficiency and accuracy of remediation jobs. Additionally, the incorporation of asset zones enables technicians to monitor the effectiveness of remediation equipment, ensuring optimal remediation outcomes.

Conclusion

Through a user-informed design approach and iterative prototyping, environmental sensor monitoring within Kahi’s new Field iOS app delivers a seamless experience for technicians tasked with optimizing remediation efforts. Continual feedback and iteration will ensure the app remains aligned with evolving user needs and industry standards, ultimately driving greater efficiency and effectiveness in the remediation process.
